Running and training at the Peabody Veterans Memorial High School Track (485 Lowell Street in Peabody)is about to start. Opening Night is Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 6pm. On hand will be Coach Fernando Braz and maybe an assistant or two. Coach Braz has proven successful at training everyone to run better and faster from adult beginners seeking a walk-to-run program to back-of-the-pack runners to would-be qualifiers for the US Olympic team selection races in the marathon. This is in addition to his proven success as a high school coach.
You owe it to yourself to come to the Peabody High School Track and see what it is all about. The track’s flat, fixed distance makes it the perfect location to learn how to run at an even pace and maximize your enjoyment of running. And at the track you can find other runners who run or run/walk at your pace. Coach Braz will teach us how to warm up properly and then place each runner in a compatible group based on each runner’s current pace. Each week Coach Braz will hand out workouts tailored to each group’s needs and individuals’ goals. Workouts vary by week and by group, but runners are always free to change groups and to modify workouts.
Usually, Coach Braz asks each of us about each individual’s current running status and goals for the year. I’m sure he will again this year, so think about the current state of your running and what your short-term and long-term goals are and come begin your summer track training at Peabody High School on Wednesday, May 14 at 6 pm.
