This Grand Prix Race saw off and on rain, but only enough to be a minor
nuisance factor rather than a detriment. It was barely noticeable while
running on a runner-friendly course on the former campus of Don Bosco
school which currently houses Biolabs. The course has just enough hills
and wide-open on-site roads with beautiful landscapes and scenery to
make it a challenge, but not a gut-wrencher. Spring was in full spender
with splashes of color from daffodils, jonquils, tulips, forsythia,
rhododendrons in full bloom and leaf buds emerging from every tree. It
smelled like spring: clean air and the fragrance of mulch and after-rain soil.
Many North Shore Striders came out for the race and rocked the course.
Among our standouts, three of our men placed in the top ten overall: John
Linsley 4th, Chris McCarthy 6th and Ian Alsop 9th. Similarly, Julie Menosky,
Anne Kohler and Melissa Whitten were among the top ten women finishers.
Our 50-59 women, Anne Kohler, Melissa Whitten and Rene Merritt swept
their age group awards! We had many podium placements and we all got
to share pre-and post-race camaraderie. Doesn’t get much better. Jill, as
always, compiled the results and provided the statistics.
