It had rained all day, off and on showers and downpours. The thoughts of a soggy race were on everyone’s mind. But as the afternoon hours, passed, so did the rain’s intensity, getting down to a few stray sprinkles prior to the relays. And the very challenging heat we’ve been experiencing took a break and by race time it was 60 degrees and combined with the overcast skies, the conditions were good for racing.
Many clubs put up their tents on Great Woods Road and all the competitors milled around before the race. Many were pinning on bibs, warming up, finding their relay teammates and their running order, and there was great energy and excitement in the air for this yearly gathering. North Shore Striders were ready to compete with eleven four-person teams. At 6pm, runners took their marks, and our teams showed the field what they’re made of. After the finish, all enjoyed refreshments Jill Page and company provided including drinks, bananas, energy bars, cookies, chips, various munchies, and enough yummy pizza to feed our whole tribe and have leftovers!
