On New Year’s Day, 2015, a beautiful day with strong winds and 22 degree temperatures, Annajean McMahon showed her heels to the competition in the 10K division of the Lowell Elks 1st Run, and another twenty-one Striders stayed closer to home and raced through Salem.
Lowell Elks 1st Run – 10K: Annajean McMahon, 1st W60-69, 53:01
At the Frosty Four in Salem, Nancy Wilson and Vanessa Freedman celebrated their December birthdays by breezing to victory in their respective age groups (80-89 and 15-19). It was Nancy’s second day in her new age group. Also bringing home gold medals were Deb Jackson, Mike Pelletier, and Martin Tighe. Earning Silver was Bonnie Hallinan while Bill Kobus and Anne Pelletier were awarded bronze medals.
Note: Bill Kobus claims he is a 5K specialist who hit a wall beyond 3.1 miles because he hasn’t trained to run farther than 3.1 miles. More likely the wall he hit was the full-on head-wind that hammered everyone as we ran alongside Collins Cove beginning at 3 miles.
