Club History

The North Shore Striders Track Club was founded in 1976 to promote running for both the recreational and the competitive runner. Our current membership of 125 men and women come from various running backgrounds and ages. Some members are competitive marathoners and ultra-marathoners while others compete on the track and in cross-country.

As an active member of the North Shore Striders you will never find a dull moment. Whether it is a road relay race, a club-sponsored cook out, a track workout or working at a club-hosted race, there are plenty of fun and interesting activities going on throughout the year.

The North Shore Striders Track Club is a member of USA Track & Field New England, the governing body of track and field events in the United States.

Weekly Training Runs

North Shore Striders currently meet two times a week for club-sponsored runs:

  • Thursday evenings at 6:15 pm (beginning 1/14) - Salem run

Striders meet in front of the liquor store in the strip of stores in the Highland Plaza in between Shaw's and Target. Park 2/3 of the way out from the liquor store toward Highland Avenue. We usually run 4 - 6 miles, but can adjust it for shorter or longer distances. This run will not go on Highland Avenue, but will be confined to the condos behind Shaw's.

Refelective clothing is a must; a headlamp is always welcome.

E-mail Mike Pelletier or call him on 978-744-6906 to let him know if you want to meet at his house at 6:00 pm or in front of the liquor store near Shaw's at 6:15 pm. After 6, call Mike at 978-979-9740 if you are lost or late.

  • Sunday mornings at 8:00am - Long Run

Long runs begin at the Anchor Pub at the foot of the Beverly-Salem bridge on 1A (Beverly side, corner of Congress and Summit, across from the main entrance). Stick around for breakfast afterward: the Anchor has lots of runners' favorites on the menu, taste-tested by your team mates!
Contact any officer for directions or other information. Pace and distance vary with the number and skill level of those that show up.
