Club History

The North Shore Striders Track Club was founded in 1976 to promote running for both the recreational and the competitive runner. Our current membership of 125 men and women come from various running backgrounds and ages. Some members are competitive marathoners and ultra-marathoners while others compete in shorter road races and trail runs as well as on the track and in cross-country.

As an active member of the North Shore Striders you will never find a dull moment. Whether it is a relay race, a club-sponsored cook out, Christmas Party or Awards Banquet, a track workout, group training run or working at a club-hosted race, there are plenty of fun and interesting activities going on throughout the year.

The North Shore Striders Track Club is a member of USA Track & Field New England, the governing body of track and field events in the United States.

Weekly Training Runs

North Shore Striders currently meet many times a week for club-sponsored runs:

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday early mornings - Red Rock (Swampscott)

Striders meet in front of the Red Rock Bistro in Swampscott three times a week at 5:30 am for a 5+ mile loop. Here is our route. Please contact Neil Bernstein by email or phone (781-596-8675) for more information.

  • Tuesday evenings - Run from Lime Rickey's

Striders meet on Tuesday nights for runs from Lime Rickey's in Marblehead (Devereaux Beach parking lot). Meet others interested in long-distance training...the spring running season will be here before you know it! Lime Rickey's is located on the right on Ocean Ave. in Marblehead, just before the causeway that crosses over to Marblehead Neck.

Two loops from Lime Rickey's: the first 4-mile loop around Marblehead Neck in a counterclockwise direction begins at 6:00pm and a second 4-mile loop around the downtown begins at 6:40pm.

Contact George Geis by email or at 781-639-0533 with any questions.

  • Thursday evenings - Track Workout (will resume April 12, 2012)

Take advantage of one of the benefits of your annual membership - track workouts with a professional coach! Meet at the Peabody High School at 5:45pm for a road warm up run followed by a track workout with club coach Fernando Braz at 6:00pm.

All levels are encouraged to attend.

If you are new to the track workouts, it will help Coach Braz if you would fill out your information and training goals on this form and email it to him. (Download the form to your local hard drive, fill it in and attach it in an email.) Mention that you are a Strider in your email.

Contact Mike Pelletier by email or call him on 978-744-6906 with any questions.

  • Saturday mornings at 9 am - Salem Common run

The Striders' Salem Slackers Saturday runs begin at 9 am at Salem Common in front of 82 Washington Square. Length and pace of run vary, contact Mike Pelletier (info above) for more information on how to join the Slackers.

  • Sunday mornings at 7 am - Long Run

Long runs begin at the Anchor Pub at the foot of the Beverly-Salem bridge on 1A (Beverly side, corner of Congress and Summit, across from the main entrance). Stick around for breakfast afterward: the Anchor has lots of runners' favorites on the menu, taste-tested by your team mates!

Contact Vicky Yee by email or phone 978-921-2456, or contact Jayne Sexton by email or phone 978-766-5130 with any questions.

Pace and distance vary with the number and skill level of those that show up.
