Yankee Homecoming 10-Mile and 5K Road Races

NEWBURYPORT - Thirty-four North Shore Striders ran the 10-Mile race. New Strider Harold Beard led the way for the men. Joe Giannone and George Geis, after only two days to recover from the Carver Cranberry 5M NE Championship, repeated their 1st and 2nd place finishers in the 70+ age group. Pam Morin, Jayne Sexton, and Linda Fitzpatrick picked up second place finishes in their respective age groups. Sue Besse finished a strong third behind Pam Morin, while Linda Desjardins and Pattie Clocher (in her first ever 10-mile race) finished fourth in their age groups.
In the accompanying 5K starting 10 minutes before the 10 Mile race, eleven Striders opted for speed over distance. In the 5K Race, Nancy Giannone ran away with 1st place in her age group, while Armand Claveau finished just out of the medal range with a 4th in his age group.
In the team competition in the 10-Mile race, the NSS team of Linda Fitzpatrick, Linda Desjardins, and Bonnie Hallinan finished 1st in the Women’s 60+ Division; the NSS team of Jayne Sexton, Linda Fitzpatrick, and Pattie Clocher finished 3rd in the Women’s 50+ Division; the team of Pam Morin, Sue Besse, and Lauren Hamilton finished 3rd in the Women’s 40+ Division, and the team of Pam Morin, Sue Quimby and Sue Besse finished 6th in the Women’s Open Division.
On the Men’s side of the team competition, deuces were wild as the team of Steve Keenholtz, Joe Giannone, and Mike Pelletier finished 2nd in the Men’s 60+ Division; Harold Beard, Carl Buxbaum, and Neil Bernstein finished 2nd in the Men’s 50+ Division; Harold Beard, Carl Buxbaum, Neil Bernstein, Dave Sullivan, and Eric Jones finished 2nd in the Men’s 40+ Division; and Harold Beard, Rick Johnson, Carl Buxbaum, Jon Ryan, and Sean Kay finished 7th in the always tough Men’s Open Division.
