A new year and a new opportunity to show your stuff.
16 members of the North Shore Striders dared to state their 2003
goals early in the year, yielding 8 NSS Goal-Busters in 2003.
26 Striders stated their goals in 2004, yielding 13 NSS Goal-Busters in 2004.
22 Striders stated their goals in 2005, yielding 6 NSS
Goal-Busters in 2005.
Now is the time to look forward to 2005.
Below, we will collect the 2005 goals and have the opportunity to see both the results and
post-mortems of 2005 North Shore Strider Goal-Chasers.
Wouldn't you know it - yet again, some Striders will refrain from publicly stating
their 2006 goals (duh!). Goals, personal records (PRs) and achievements
they have, however. Well, we have two additional sections for these Striders.
The second section provides a special acknowledgement of Striders who surpass USATF Time Standards -
* Under USATF Age-Group guideline - 2006.
The third section is for
Other Personal Records (PRs) and Achievements
by Striders.
Let's see if we can get even more Striders to stand up and be
counted in 2006. In any event, keep us up to date and on our toes, with Goal-Buster
results, PRs, personal achievements, whether they be yours or other Striders!

Shore Strider Goal-Chasers - 2006

To qualify as a "Goal Chaser" goal, the goal has to be directly related to running and racing,
it has to be reasonably measurable, and it has to be (or be perceived to be) a challenge.
The goal can be faster or slower than some previous time, taking into consideration aging, injuries and
such. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail us at:

Where's the Asterisk, versus, Where's Waldo?
|
|
Although few runners are aware of it, they participate in a mostly unnoticed competition, against
Time Standards for National Road Race Rankings. These standards are set by the
USATF and posted on
Running USA, more specifically, at
Time Standards for National Road Rankings.
This is a race between each individual runner and the standard set for elite
runners in each age/gender division.
A similar but slightly different standard is set by National Masters News,
U.S. Masters Standards of Excellence for Men and
U.S. Masters Standards of Excellence for Women.
Those runners who beat the standard are recognized by a little asterisk (*) after their time, in
the results page from a race.
That's it. No trophies. No major announcements. No advertising deals from international sports equipment makers.
Therefore, it seems appropriate to at least publicly acknowledge those who achieve these standards.
We are on the watch for Striders who achieve the asterisk:

|
For PR's, a "first timer", competing at a given distance for the first time,
automatically qualifies as a PR. Also, a "recent history" PR counts, which basically means that it is not necessary to beat out a PR
from high school or college days, or even a decade ago (and is, in general, open to liberal interpretation).
