Goal-Chaser Watch - 2003
North Shore Strider Goal-Chasers - 2003 current year's Goal Chaser Watch

* Under USATF Age-Group guideline - 2003

Other Personal Records (PRs) and Achievements - 2003

As we enter the autumn season and approach the end of the year, judgment day either has arrived or is close at hand.

16 members of the North Shore Striders dared to state their 2003 goals early in the year. 8 of them achieved their goals - that is 8 NSS Goal-Busters in 2003! Review those goals and see the results (and post-mortems) of North Shore Strider Goal-Chasers.

Wouldn't you know it - some Striders refrained from publicly stating their 2003 goals (duh!). Goals, personal records (PRs) and achievements they have, however. Well, we have another two additional sections for these Striders.

The second section provides a special acknowledgement of the 3 Striders who surpassed USATF Time Standards in 2003 - * Under USATF Age-Group guideline - 2003.

The third section is for Other Personal Records (PRs) and Achievements by Striders. 7 Striders achieved PRs in 2003.

Maybe next year we can get more Striders to (boldly) proclaim their goals, up front. In any event, keep us up to date and on our toes, with Goal-Buster results, PRs, personal achievements, whether they be yours or other Striders! - .

Where's the Asterisk, versus, Where's Waldo?

Although few runners are aware of it, they participate in a mostly unnoticed competition, against Time Standards for National Road Race Rankings. These standards are set by the USATF and posted on Running USA. This is a race between each individual runner and the standard set for elite runners in each age/gender division.

Those runners who beat the standard are recognized by a little asterisk (*) after their time, in the results page from a race.

That's it. No trophies. No major announcements. No advertising deals from international sports equipment makers.

Therefore, it seems appropriate to at least publicly acknowledge those who achieve these standards. During 2003, Striders did this only five times:

Name Age Div Distance Standard Time Date Event
Joe Shairs 35 M35-39 25 K 1:28 1:26:37* 9/1/03 Cape Ann
Wally Kurz 66 M65-69 5 K 21:45 20:56* 11/9/03 Run for All Ages
Louise Rossetti 82 F80-99 5K 50:00 39:49* 11/9/03 Run for All Ages
Louise Rossetti 82 F80-99 5M 1:15 1:03:50* 11/23/03 Turkey Trot
Wally Kurz 66 M65-69 5 M 36:00 34:31* 11/27/03 Feaster Five

Congratulations to Joe, Wally and Louise!
